An award winning artist Shiroki attracts not only the Japanese media, but also all those art enthusiasts from around the world.
Shiroki, whose works include film titles, CD titles, logos etc., is also known as a visual artist with great ability to create her own world of art which she started to develop when Shiroki was an art college student. Shiroki was born in Yokohama, Japan in 1967 and began studying calligraphy at the age of 6.
Today Shiroki continues to create various works based on alphabets and characters, but without sticking to
traditional ways of calligraphy. Shiroki is famous for the use of unique
kissmarks for seals on her works, and that also attracts many art collectors.
Shiroki explains, calligraphy, in my own interpretation, is not just an enumeration of characters. It
is a combination of spirits, and instant uplifting feeling created by inksticks and my own techniques.
Shirokiﾕs creations are not just abstract expressions; observers often feel light, shadow, colour, smell, depth, or even sound in her artworks that are, in fact, two-dimensional and black and white. Perhaps the most suitable word to introduce her is the magicianﾓ of inksticks.
Many of Shirokiﾕs latest works will be displayed at the exhibitions in September held at the Japanese
embassy in Denmark and Ordrupgaard Museum. There will also be workshops at Denmarks Designschool and the University of Copenhagen.
The eyes of Danes will surely be caught by Shirokiﾕs fine artworks.
